A UNICEF report says that the number of children dying worldwide has dropped below 10 million a year for the first time. Global child deaths fall to 9.7 million in 2005, down from nearly 13 million in 1990. Dr Christopher Murray, director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, said the child mortality rate is expected to drop by 27% by 2015.
