Sexual Violence Now Common in Marital Life

A new study not only showed that sexual violence in marital life is common among young women (15-24 years of age), but there also exists violence against men by wives. The study was conducted by Centre for Research on Environment Health and population Activities among 1,296 young married women and 648 men among four major ethic groups in four districts. Overall, 46 per cent young women surveyed had experienced violence. Around one in ten men (11.1 per cent) of young married men experienced such sexual violence from their wives. Muslim women and Brahmin/Chhetri men face a high risk of sexual violence after marriage, the report says.
