Researcher at Bologna University, Italy, found that 36 per cent of students aged 10 to 15 were suffering from back problems attributable to carrying overloaded schoolbags. They fond that the average daily weight of schoolbag was 7.7 Kg.

Now Italy’s MPs have authorised the education ministry to work out on the maximum desirable weight of school bags.

An earlier study by the American Academy of Paediatrics concluded that schoolchildren should not be expected to carry more than 15 per cent of their body weight.
